NegOcc gov’t axes 2 employees over missing P2.3-M fertilizers

BACOLOD City – The provincial government of Negros Occidental dismissed employees of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) for the disappearance of 789 sacks of A dismissal order was issued against Hermenegildo Basilio, Agriculturist 1, for alleged grave misconduct, serious dishonesty, and malversation of public funds and property.

Joy Cardinal, Agriculturist 1 and a contract of service employee, was sacked, too.fertilizer at the Negros First Rice Processing Center in Barangay Tabunan, Bago City.

The fertilizers were from the Department of Agriculture (DA) Region 6 and intended for farmers in various cities and towns in Negros Occidental.

Provincial Legal Officer Atty. Alberto Nellas Jr. said they found enough basis to hold the two employees liable for the disappearance of fertilizer bags worth P2.3 million.

Basilio has 15 days to file an appeal before the Civil Service Commission, Nellas said.

Nellas also confirmed that the employees’ immediate supervisor had resigned.

He added that they could not chase down the division head, which the Provincial Legal Office had already cleared. (Watchmen Daily Journal)
