The Camalanda-an National High School in Cauayan, Negros Occidental was recently awarded for implementing “Zero Waste Policy” inside the school premises.

The school received the platinum award for good environmental practice from the Provincial Environmental Management Office.

According to school Principal Ricky Dela Cruz, it started four years ago with a “Plastic Free Tuesday” campaign. Now the school is on its full implementation of the zero plastic policy.

“We aim also to increase the biodiversity and habitat quality of the school ground by planting indigenous tree species and increasing the habitat area of wild life,” Dela Cruz noted. (With a report from PENRO Negros Occidental/PN)
