NEGROS Occidental — Cadiz City Mayor Salvador Escalante has issued a public warning against a fraudulent Facebook account impersonating him, urging residents to remain vigilant and avoid engaging with the fake profile.
In an advisory, Escalante said the bogus account has been sending friend requests and private messages while falsely presenting itself as his official social media account.
“This account is not mine and is not authorized by me. Any messages, requests, or transactions initiated through this account are fraudulent,” the mayor stressed.
He clarified that he does not solicit money, favors, or personal information through unofficial or personal social media accounts, cautioning the public against potential scams.
Escalante urged residents to take precautionary measures, including refraining from accepting suspicious or duplicate friend requests, avoiding engagement with the fake account, and never sharing personal or financial information online.
He also called on the public to report the fraudulent account directly to Facebook using the platform’s reporting tools and to help circulate the advisory to prevent others from being deceived.
The mayor said he has coordinated with law enforcement agencies and Facebook to facilitate the immediate takedown of the fake account and to pursue appropriate legal action against those responsible.
