BACOLOD City – The Negros Occidental Provincial Library has received a donation of more than 6,000 books from an international nonprofit organization, The Asia Foundation.

These books will be distributed to various public schools and public libraries across the province, aiming to enhance the educational resources available to students and the community.

The books will be shared among public schools under the DepEd Divisions of Negros Occidental, Escalante City, Himamaylan City, Sipalay City, and Victorias City. Additionally, public libraries in the cities of Himamaylan, Victorias, and Escalante will also receive their share of the donated books.

The Asia Foundation was represented by Reynald Ocampo and Jonathan Bello during the ceremonial turnover held on Friday, April 12, at the provincial library in Bacolod City.

Gov. Eugenio Lacson expressed his gratitude to The Asia Foundation for choosing Negros Occidental as the recipient. He emphasized the importance of librarians working together to empower communities by providing accessible and inclusive public library services.

Lacson also assured his support for the various initiatives undertaken by the libraries, highlighting their role as community builders and instruments for community and cultural outreach.

Also present during the ceremonial turnover were Provincial Librarian Rio Lynne Panisa, Department of Education-Negros Occidental Schools Division Superintendent Anthony Liobet, and Board Member Rita Gatuslao, Sangguniang Panlalawigan committee on education chair, among others. (Watchmen Daily Journal)/PN
