Negrense Bejoy claims 2nd UAAP athletics gold

CAPAS, Tarlac – Negrense Bernalyn Bejoy of De La Salle University notched her second gold medal in the UAAP Season 87 Collegiate Athletics on Tuesday at the New Clark City Stadium here.

The Romanito Maravilla National High School standout clinched her second gold in the women’s 400-meter event in 56.01 seconds, ahead of University of Santo Tomas’ Jessa Belinario (56.73) and Far Eastern University’s Kaye Villanueva (57.21).

The Bacolod City-native Bejoy previously captured a gold medal in the women’s 800-meter event before settling for a silver medal finish in the women’s 200-meter dash event.

Ilongga Annie Mercurio, Shane Ponce, Angelyn Ortiz, and Diane Taranza of FEU clinched the gold medal in the women’s 4×100-meter relay with a record-setting time of 46.84 seconds.

Negrense Hannah Jandra Delotavo, Jessel Lumapas, Erica Mae Ruto, and Abcd Agamanos of De La Salle University settled for a silver medal finish with a time of 47.45 seconds.

Ilonggo Kent Francis Jardin of Adamson University took home his third bronze medal in the men’s triple jump in 14.78 meters. Finishing ahead of him are University of the Philippines’ Clint Neri (14.94 meters) and Ranier Sobrepeña (14.82 meters).

Jardin, a native of Calinog in Iloilo province, earlier bagged two bronze medals in the men’s long jump and 200-meter dash events.

Balasan, Iloilo-native Rhealyn de Costa of FEU captured a bronze medal in the women’s javelin throw with 36.83 meters, behind Aina Masangkay of UP (39.58 meters) and UST’s Rashied Faith Burdeos (39.10 meters)./PN
