MANILA – Negrense and Ilonggo taekwondo jins dazzled and reaped medals in the 2021 Smart/MVP Sports Foundation National Interschool Poomsae Championships over the weekend.
Taekwondo jins from the Negros Taekwondo Union (NTU)-Tigers New Gen ended the one-day online competition with six medals – four gold and two bronze.
Christelle Theresse Avanceña of Bacolod Tay Tung High School scored gold in the Junior Female Red category after thrashing silver medalist Ashton dela Torre of St. Paul Parañaque and bronze winners Kimberly Concepcion of Manresa School and Kriztel Sebastian of the College of the Immaculate Concepcion.
Ceanne Kyle Rosquillo of Negros Occidental High School seized gold in Senior Male Black, beating silver medalist Kier Macalino of the National University (NU) and bronze medalists Jed Tan of NU and Joachim Tuzon of the University of Santo Tomas.
Alexander Marañon of St. John’s Institute-Bacolod ruled the Grade School Boys Red after ousting silver medalist Issei Endo of the International School Manila and bronze winners Junior Ji of the College of Maasin and Matthew Almonte of the St. Clare College-Cauayan City.
Furthermore, El John Alinar of Negros Occidental High School was a gold medalist in the Junior/Senior Male Blue category. He beat Arden Ruiz of Pudtol Vocational School-Apayao, Kaienth Badua of Pudtol Central School, and Gabriel Ciego of the Christ the King, Calbayog City.
The bronze medal awardees for the NTU-Tiger New Gen taekwondo stable were Julienne Beatriz Zapata of St. Scholastica’s Academy in Cadet Girls Black and Manuel Machado III of Bacolod Tay Tung High School in Cadet Boys Brown.
On the other hand, the Iloilo City-based A. Diasnes Taekwondo Gym had three medalists in the Philippine Taekwondo Association-sanctioned tournament.
Kian Ezekiel Castigador of Ateneo de Iloilo was the lone gold awardee for the team in the Brownbelt Gradeschool Male category, while schoolmate Elizabeth Marie Borres got silver in Blackbelt Cadet Female.
Meriel Don Belvis of Oton National High School bagged the bronze medal in the Brownbelt Junior Female, while Seth Ryan Templanza of Central Philippine University fell short of a medal finish in the Blackbelt Junior Male category./PN
