Louielyn Pamatian, a native of Bago City, Negros Occidental, takes home 15 gold, six silver and six bronze medals in the UAAP Season 80 athletics.

MANILA – University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses defended its women’s athletics title for the fourth straight year in UAAP Season 80, which ended at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

Louielyn Pamatian was adjudged the tournament MVP for the second straight year on Sunday with a total of 434 points and a 15-6-6 gold-silver-bronze medal haul.

The Bago City, Negros Occidental native spearheaded Golden Tigresses’ campaign with four gold medals in 4×400m relay, 400m sprint, and 800m and 1500m runs.

“I am glad that I was able to help UST win its fourth consecutive championship,” Pamatian said. “Gusto ko ring magpasalamat sa teammates ko dahil pinaghirapan namin talaga ang paghahanda sa UAAP.”

New Washington, Aklan native Alyssa Andrade, meanwhile, bagged her second medal in the tournament after finishing second place in long jump. Her teammate Judy Mae Almasa bagged the bronze medal.

“Expected na iyan na bubuhos iyong puntos dahil strongest events namin iyong mga naiwan,” said UST head coach Emmanuel Calipes. “Deciding factor iyong nakuha natin ang MVP. We are on target kaya we didn’t feel any pressure of losing the title.”

Finishing behind Golden Tigresses were Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws (second place, 357 points) and University of the Philippines Lady Maroons (third place, 170.5 points)./PN
