Negrense Servania aims for another world title shot

AFTER failing in his first try a year ago, Negrense boxer Genesis Servania is hoping to have another shot at a world championship, preferably against WBO super bantamweight champion Isaac Dogboe of Ghana.

But first things first. The Bacolod City native Servania has to put on an impressive show against Mexican Carlos Carlson this morning at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California.

Servania said he had a lengthy preparation for his fight against Carlson as he knows it can be his ticket on convincing Dogboe for a world title clash early next year.

“I trained hard for this fight and I’ll give all my best. My opponent is a good fighter, I have respect for him,” said Servania, who is now training with Kashimi Gym in Japan.

“If I’m scheduled to fight him, I’ll study all his fights. It will be a good fight with Dogboe,” added Servania, who suffered a unanimous decision loss to Oscar Valdez for the WBO featherweight belt last year.

Top Rank Promotions head Bob Arum, who handles the career of Servania, said he is willing to make Servania’s dream fight come true but he needed to take care of business with Carlson first.

“Then our goal is to put Servania in with Dogboe, and that’s a hell of a fight,” said Arum.

“But Dogboe also has to win his fight first (on Dec.r 8 at Madison Square Garden in New York).”

The 27-year-old Servania currently has 31-1-0 win-loss-draw ring record, with 14 knockout wins, while the 28-year-old Carlson has 23-4-0 boxing slate, including 14 stoppage wins.
