MANILA – It was as heartbreaking as it gets.
The Philippines suffered a 0-4 defeat to DE District III team in the finals of the Senior League Softball World Series on Sunday (Monday in Manila) at the Lower Sussex Little League Park in Delaware.
Represented by the Bacolod City-based Domingo Lacson National High School, the Filipino team lost the lead late in the match after conceding to an error and allowing DE District III to score a run in the fifth inning.
DE District III continued to dominate since then, scoring three runs in the sixth inning courtesy of a home run by Jakayla Sample, a single by Kylie Kruger and a single by Jordan DiFava.
Taylor Wroten earned the championship for DE District III as she went seven innings, allowing zero runs, two hits and striking out one. Corrin Farris and Sample each collected multiple hits for DE District III.
Kaith Ezra Jaladoni tossed five and a third innings – allowing four runs, five hits, striking out four, and walking zero – for the Philippines. She and Glecilyn Alipato also collected a hit each.
The Philippines, representing the Asia-Pacific, swept its preliminary foes Latin America (7-0), East (5-0), Southwest (6-1), and DE District III (1-0).
In the quarterfinals, the Philippines defeated West squad (10-0) before dominating the Southeast team in the semifinals (9-0).
