NEGROS kept its unbeaten record in the 1st Governor’s Cup Regional Invitational U-15 Football Championship with a 2-1 victory over Iloilo at the Iloilo Sports Complex in Iloilo City.
Reuben Allen Liamsing came up with goals in the fourth and 19th minute for the Negrenses to surge 2-0 on Thursday. Ilonggos got a consolation goal from Rolf Alminaza in 76th minute to avoid a shutout defeat.
But Negros will have to play the semifinals – and, possibly, the finals – without Ryan Christian Moises, who was sent off in the 11th minute due to violent conduct.
“(Moises) will be suspended for two games for his action,” said Edwin Caro Laru-an, Iloilo province football director. “This incident should serve as a lesson to all players in this tournament. We do not condone such acts here.”
Prior to its close win over its Western Visayas rival, Negros came from a lopsided 27-0 win over Capiz, with Joshua Limco firing 7 goals and Justin Raven Mesina having 6.
Iloilo, meanwhile, came from a 7-0 victory over Aklan, with James Tuazon and Kent Valenzucla converting 3 goals each and Zymone Binas adding another one late in the game.
The semifinals match between Negros and Aklan, and Iloilo and Capiz were still being played as of press time.
