BACOLOD City — The area where the Negros First CyberCentre is located, a residential zone, has been reclassified as a commercial zone.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod here recently approved City Ordinance 08-14-672, which amended Section 1, Article 5 of City Ordinance 216 series of 1998 or the Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance.

The new ordinance divided Brgy. 39 into institutional and commercial zones.

The institutional zone covers the area of the Paglaum Sports Complex, Negros Occidental Language and Information Technology Center, and the Negros Occidental High School, while classified as commercial zone are the area of the CyberCentre and other areas in the barangay.

Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. requested for the passage of the ordinance.

Marañon wrote Mayor Monico Puentevella and the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO), asking them to reclassify the CyberCentre area.

The ordinance is one of the requirements of the Office of the President before issuing a Presidential Proclamation declaring the provincial government project as an “Information Technology Center,” Marañon said.

The project was already accredited by the Philippine Economic Zone Authority through Board Resolution No. 11-523.

Through a letter to Councilor Caesar Distrito, urban planning and development committee chair, CPDO officer-in-charge Engr. Ana Ma. Carmen Principe recommended the reclassification of the said area./PN
