BACOLOD City — The Police Regional Office–Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) reported a generally peaceful and orderly observance of Holy Week across the region, attributing the calm conditions to intensified security measures and strong public cooperation.
Covering the period from March 29 to April 5, authorities deployed more than 1,000 police personnel in key areas to ensure public safety and preserve the solemnity of one of the country’s most significant religious observances.
Despite increased travel, religious gatherings, and tourist activity, only 36 incidents were recorded regionwide, based on PRO-NIR reports.
Most of these were classified as non-index crimes and were manageable in nature. All cases were promptly addressed through swift response and effective coordination, preventing any escalation, the PRO-NIR said.
Personnel from the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOcPPO), Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (NOrPPO), Siquijor Police Provincial Office (SPPO), and Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) were strategically deployed in churches, pilgrimage sites, major highways, transport terminals, commercial areas, and popular beach and resort destinations to ensure strong police visibility and efficient crowd and traffic management.
Authorities also worked closely with local government units and partner agencies, contributing to the smooth flow of both religious and recreational activities throughout the week.
Assistance desks and police help stations were set up in key locations to provide immediate aid to the public.
PRO-NIR described the overall security operations as a success, citing proactive policing, strategic deployment, and community cooperation as key factors behind the peaceful observance.
