BACOLOD City – On Thursday, August 1, the provincial government of Negros Occidental granted financial aid to 17 former rebels who are now actively contributing to peace and development initiatives.
Gov.r Eugenio Jose Lacson led the distribution ceremony, where a total of P228,000 was handed out to the beneficiaries, all members of the Sentrong Alyansa ng Mamamayan Para sa Bayan (SAMBAYANAN).
SAMBAYANAN, an organization comprised of former members of the New People’s Army (NPA), focuses on advocating for peace and community development.
These individuals have renounced their previous affiliations with the underground communist movement to support state-led peace efforts.
During the event, Governor Lacson emphasized the importance of mutual understanding and cooperation for the advancement of the communities and the province.
“Your cooperation and support are great contributions to the change and brighter future of our youth,” he said, affirming the government’s commitment to prioritizing their needs.
Lacson also extended his gratitude to the peace volunteers for their decision to embrace peace and support the collaborative peace initiatives spearheaded by the provincial government alongside the Philippine Army and the Philippine National Police./PN
