Negros prosecutor gets death threats

BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental provincial prosecutor Erfe del Castillo fears for her life. She has been receiving death threats, she said.

On Saturday, del Castillo said, she received another threatening text message. Then a source told her about a plan to “liquidate” her.

Del Castillo was ambushed in December last year. She had been silent, she said, because murder and frustrated murder charges she filed were already before the court.

In a press conference yesterday, del Castillo said she had been gathering evidence against those plotting against her.

She suspects them to be those who are now incarcerated or well-known drug personalities in cahoots with certain personalities she linked to her ambush.

Panay News has decided not to identify these individuals she named pending their reaction, although the individuals included former police officers, a politician and businessmen.

“I challenge the National Bureau of Investigation, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Philippine National Police to do something about the illegal drug trade,” said del Castillo./PN
