METRO Pacific Iloilo Water (MPIW) has brought improved water access to 866 households across five barangays in Cabatuan, Iloilo. Residents of barangays Pungtod, Tabucan, Banguit Relocation Site, Tiring, and Talanghauan, who were previously served by a single water source, now benefit from an additional supply that has significantly extended their daily water availability.
Prior to this, these communities relied solely on the Tabucan Wells, a single water source that could not produce enough water to keep taps running around the clock. To address this, MPIW, in coordination with the local government of Cabatuan, worked with its bulk water supplier, Metro Iloilo Bulk Water Supply Incorporated (MIB), to bring a second source online. MIB energized the Pamul-ogan Wells on June 1, 2026 and connected them to the pipelines serving the five barangays.
The difference was felt almost immediately. Before the augmentation, households had running water for only seven hours a day. By June 2, 2026, approximately 707 households across barangays Pungtod, Tabucan, Banguit Relocation Site, and Tiring began enjoying water 24 hours a day. Barangay Talanghauan also saw a significant improvement, with its daily supply window increasing from seven to 18 hours.
“This improvement is the result of efficient coordination with MIB and the use of effective methods in water supply that resulted in increased capacity for these communities. More households now have water, and that is what matters,” said Mr. Angelo David Berba, chief operating officer of MPIW.
MPIW and MIB continue to work together to keep water available for their customers, especially during dry periods caused by El Niño. The Pamul-ogan Wells are still ramping up. Currently, they produce enough water to fill 300 standard household water tanks every day. By the end of the year, that capacity is expected to grow to 1,000 tanks worth of water daily, which means more households across Cabatuan will benefit from the same improvements in water supply.
“These projects are part of our long-term investment in a more reliable water system for Iloilo. We are building infrastructure that can meet both current needs and future demand,” Berba added.
Beyond Cabatuan, Metro Pacific Water (MPW), MPIW’s parent company, is also building modular water treatment facilities in Barangay Nabitasan, La Paz, Iloilo City and in the Ateneo de Iloilo area. With a combined capacity of 2 million liters per day, these facilities are targeted for completion in the third quarter of 2026 and are expected to benefit around 2,000 more households with more reliable water supply.
