BACOLOD City – Some of the 39 newly purchased closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras were being installed in areas along Luzuriaga-Araneta and Burgos-Lacson streets in this capital city.
The CCTV cameras will be used to monitor crimes, vehicular accidents and flood in Bacolod, according to Executive Assistant Joemarie Vargas.
Vargas, also the cluster head of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, said Neotech Asia, the supplier of the CCTVs, started installing the devices on Tuesday.
The newly installed CCTV units were still being tested as part of the city government’s contract with Neotech Asia worth P23 million, which includes the purchase of computers, monitors and recorders.
Other CCTV units will be installed at the exit and entry points of the city, said Vargas.
During Monico Puentevella’s term as mayor, the city government purchased 15 CCTV cameras worth P15 million.
But Vargas said these units were already defective.
Due to some irregularities in the purchase of the 15 CCTV units, Vargas said he will consult the Commission on Audit before they are repaired.
Vargas hopes that the installment of all the new CCTV units will be completed come June 18, the commemoration of the signing of Bacolod’s cityhood./PN
