New council created to implement Iloilo Innovation Roadmap 2030

CITY and provincial stakeholders recently created the Iloilo Innovation Council tasked to implement Iloilo Innovation Roadmap with the aim to make Iloilo as the Philippines’ “innovation” hub by 2030.

Mayor Jerry Treñas, through Executive Order 118 series of 2019, created the new council on Oct. 23, but according to Iloilo Business Club executive director Maria Lara, the council has yet to hold major meetings since its creation.

The council’s chairman is Mayor Jerry Treñas, while Governor Arthur Defensor co-chairs the council with the director of Iloilo Economic Development Foundation. Moreover, the council’s vice chairmen include the director of the Department of Science and Technology, the President of the Iloilo Federation for Information Technology and the President of the Iloilo Government Industry Academe Council Inc.

The council will also incorporate several sectoral core groups, including but not limited to academic institutions, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Panay Organic Producers Organization, Global Shapers Iloilo Hub, Future Smart as well as various government agencies.

The new council is tasked to draft and enact Innovate Iloilo Roadmap 2030 as well as to prepare and submit recommendations for the Roadmap Implementation Plan to be approved by the City Government in the second quarter of 2020./PN
