BORACAY – The management of the Caticlan jetty port is readying a proposal for new port guidelines when this island resort reopens after its up-to-six-month closure and rehabilitation.

Jetty port administrator Niven Maquirang said they are drafting the proposed guidelines  as early as possible for it will still be deliberated by the Sangguniang Bayan of Malay and the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Aklan.

Under what has been drafted so far, “tourists going to Boracay must present first their hotel bookings before being allowed passage to the jetty port,” according to Maquirang.

“Hotels may also put up booths at the jetty port to cater to walk-in tourists,” he added.

Once approved by the municipal and provincial councils, the proposal will be forwarded to the Department of Tourism for comment.

The jetty port management also plans to create a one-stop shop where companies and other business establishments can set up their booths for hiring new workers once Boracay reopens.

The one-stop shop will control the entry to Boracay, said Maquirang, adding that it will also let applicants save money from going to and from the world-famous island.

“Job interviews and hiring of applicants should also be done at the jetty port in cooperation with the Provincial Employment Service Office,” Maquirang said. “Once the applicant is hired, he or she will be given a contract. The contract will then serve as a gate pass to board a boat for Boracay.”
