KALIBO, Aklan – The national government is building a road that will connect Malinao, Aklan and Sebaste, Antique.
The P250-million project is expected to improve infrastructure and facilities in hinterland barangays.
It will pass through barangay Sugnod and Capataga in Malinao and traverse Barangay Alegre in Sebaste, said Malinao mayor Wilbert Ariel Igoy.
The new road is seen to benefit farmers in upland barangays and help enhance the tourism potentials of northern towns in Antique and Aklan.
Capataga – the largest barangay in Malinao with a land area of some 6,000 hectares – is around 20 kilometers from the town’s Barangay Poblacion.
Once completed, the road is also expected to improve connectivity between far-flung villages and major towns for better transportation of services, goods and people.
Currently travelers have to pass by the Aklan West Road (Kalibo-Caticlan) through junction Nabas, Aklan, and then Pandan, Antique to reach Sebaste.
Malinao is a fourth-class municipality with 23 barangays. Sebaste, also a fourth-class town, has 10 barangays.
The National Economic and Development Authority endorses the road project, said Igoy.
Volunteers conducted geo-tagging activities for the project in the last week of May, the mayor said. (With Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
