NFA pushes aggressive palay procurement

SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique – The National Food Authority (NFA) seeks to inform farmers of their aggressive palay procurement to attain enough buffer stock.

NFA Region 6 director John Robert Hermano emphasized the intensified palay procurement and licensing activity to ensure that all grains business owners have secured NFA licenses.

During his meeting with NFA employees, he also tackled major concerns in procurement, distribution and licensing.

He suggested some strategies to be undertaken such as conducting Ugnayan activities with farmers, ensuring logistics are already in place before the peak of the harvest season and establishing pick-up points for mobile procurement.

Hermano also visited the rice mill, dryers, trucking, warehouse and other facilities at the NFA Provincial Office.

He wanted to be familiarized with the agency’s capability to procure and logistics needed to ensure that targets are met.

He also discussed the Rice Tariffication Bill and encouraged everyone to secure a copy and read it for further understanding.

The visit of RD Hermano is his first call in Antique being the newly installed director of Region 6. He is previously from Region 8.

On the other hand, NFA also urged the rice retailers to abide by the suggested Retail Prices of Rice and prescribed labeling for milled rice. (PIA/PN
