MANILA – After shoring up its frontline with the acquisition of Marion Magat, NLEX Road Warriors also added depth to its backcourt by signing up free agent guard Kris Rosales.
The Road Warriors announced on Tuesday a one-year deal with the Filipino-American guard who is making a PBA comeback after being released by the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters early this year.
Road Warriors head coach Joseller “Yeng” Guiao said Rosales will beef up their point guard rotation with Ilonggo Kiefer Ravena out due to his commitment with Shiga Lakestars in Japan B.League.
“We have reached an agreement with Kris Rosales. He will ensure an extra insurance point guard for the team,” Guiao said in an article posted on NLEX’s official website.
Rosales joined the PBA Rookie Draft in 2015 and was selected in the second round (19th overall) by Barako Bull (now Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters) but was not able to play.
Rosales got his break with the TNT Tropang Giga a year later before he was traded to the Painters. He had averages of 5.45 points and 3.91 rebounds per game last year before being released.
Prior to the PBA, the Fil-Am guard also had a rich experience playing international basketball. He suited up for the Singapore Slingers in Asean Basketball League.
Before Rosales, the Road Warriors acquired the services Magat and 2023 second round pick from the Blackwater Bossing for Mike Ayonayon and William McAloney on Monday.
Meanwhile, the PBA Commissioner’s Office also approved the one-on-one trade that send veteran Alex Cabagnot to Terrafirma Dyip and Simon Enciso to San Miguel Beermen.
Originally a 1-for-2 trade with Dyip guard Roosevelt Adams going to the Beermen, the PBA has tasked the two team to revise the player swap transaction to make it balance for both teams./PN
