ILOILO City – Six city hall offices identified as essential are not covered by the temporary four-day workweek scheme.
These are City Health Office (including district health offices), Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO), City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), General Services Offices, City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), and City Environment and Natural Resources Office.
Under the four-day workweek schedule, city hall employees will report to work for 10 hours a day, Monday to Thursday, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. effective March 28.
According to Mayor Jerry Treñas, this scheme was approved by the Civil Service Commission (CSC).
The city government hopes to save electricity, there will be less traffic congestion in the city, and the employees and officials of the city would have more time with their families.
The four-day workweek setup was recommended by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) to help employees cope with the increase in fuel prices.
Treñas, however, clarified that the city government’s proposed scheme is for city hall employees only. Private companies and national government offices will have to decide on their own if they will implement the same.
He acknowledged that some private companies or industries could not implement the four-day work week owing to the nature of their business./PN
