No decision yet on NegOcc’s bid to host WVRAA

BACOLOD City – Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said yesterday morning that they were still awaiting information from the Department of Education (DepEd) regarding whether the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet 2024 will be held in Negros Occidental.

The governor expressed hope that DepEd would confirm the province’s hosting of the regional sports meet this month, highlighting the need for time to prepare.

The WVRAA Meet is typically held every April.

Lacson had previously indicated that the province is ready to host the sporting event and is even expecting it to coincide with the upcoming Panaad sa Negros Festival.

Earlier last month, the provincial government announced that it had begun preparations for hosting the WVRAA 2024. Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz mentioned that the two main venues could be the Panaad Park and Stadium and the Paglaum Sports Complex.

Meanwhile, this year’s edition of the Panaad sa Negros Festival will officially launch on March 8. Lacson noted that they will reuse the same music from last year, although the official music video will need to be replaced.

He also disclosed that the provincial government would provide P350,000 to each local government unit, which they can use for their respective pavilions. (Watchmen Daily Journal)/PN
