‘No excuse here’: MMDA responds to Bela’s photo of workers ‘exposed to harm’

THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said it has “no excuse” in response to a viral tweet from actress Bela Padilla showing the agency’s workers “exposed to harm.”

The “Sino Ang May Sala” star shared the photo of MMDA workers on the back of a truck, with only umbrellas to shield them from the heat while in transit.

Tagging the MMDA’s official Twitter account, Padilla wrote: “I hope next time you can transport your workers more safely. If we have laws to keep objects in closed trucks to avoid accidents, is it right that your men are exposed to harm this way?”

The government agency, through EDSA traffic head Bong Nebrija, agreed with Padilla’s concern, saying “safety is everyone’s responsibility.”

“There’s no excuse here, we will again reiterate our safety standards to our men and make sure their supervisors do not expose them to such unsafe conditions,” he was quoted as saying by Inquirer.net.

Nebrija added that the MMDA is “upgrading our heavy equipment to allow our personnel to do their work in a more safe environment.”

The MMDA official thanked Padilla for “her concern to improve the work conditions of our men and their safety.” MMDA chairperson Danny Lim, according to Nebrija, is “hands on in addressing this matter.” (ABS-CBN News)
