No flunkers in PDEA’s ‘surprise’ drug test

ILOILO City – Surprise, surprise! None of the 277 taxi, van, tricycle, and bus drivers and conductors subjected to unannounced drug tests in Aklan, Iloilo city and province, Antique, Roxas City, and Bacolod City flunked.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 6 conducted the drug tests at the following:

* jetty port in Malay, Aklan

* bus terminal in Barangay San Pedro, Molo, Iloilo City

* Pavia People’s Terminal in Pavia, Iloilo

* Ceres bus terminal in Barangay Camalig, Jaro, Iloilo City

* San Jose De Buenavista Terminal in Antique

* Roxas City Integrated Transport Terminal, Pueblo De Panay in Capiz, and

* Ceres South Bus Terminal in Bacolod City

According to PDEA-6 spokesperson Shey Tanaleon, the subjects were 123 bus drivers, 98 bus conductors, 34 van drivers, 15 taxi drivers, six tricycle drivers, and one dispatcher.

The tests were part of the security preparations for the recent All Saints’ Day (Nov. 1) and All Souls’ Day (Nov. 2).

“The results showed our drivers were free from illegal drugs. We’re happy,” stressed Tanaleon. 

Meanwhile, the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) said this year’s recent observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day was generally orderly and peaceful across Western Visayas.
