SAN JOSE, Antique – “The use of illegal drugs really has no happy ending.”
This was what Assistant Regional Director Levi Ortiz of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 6 told his audience during the kick-off of a Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) program in Hamtic, Antique.
Whether a user or pusher, “illegal drugs will only bring short-lived enjoyment or hype but sooner the person will really suffer.”
The Hamtic CBR is the first of its kind in Antique. It will be facilitated by the National Auxiliary Chaplaincy Philippines (NACPHIL), a non-government organization.
To help them out of their addiction, NACPHIL will conduct lectures to the drug surrenderers.
Fifty-four illegal drug surrenderers are the first batch of Hamtic CBR clients.
Their addiction was mild to moderate only, said NACPHIL chaplain Maria Assumpta Flores.
Ortiz congratulated the drug surrenderers for taking the bold step of changing themselves for the better.
Antique’s Gov. Rhodora Cadiao said the provincial government is supportive of Hamtic’s CBR – a joint project of PDEA, Department of the Interior and Local Government and Police Regional Office 6.
She turned over one set of computer unit to be used during the 26-day drug rehabilitation program that started on March 28.
Aside from the lectures, the surrenderers will be asked to come up with their journal of activities.
They will also undergo psychological test, said Flores. (With a report from the Philippine News Agency/PN)
