BACOLOD City – The Philippine National Police (PNP) goes on full alert for the Holy Week. In major places of convergence, the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) is beefing up security.
Deployment started on April 7. An initial 147 policemen were posted in churches, transport terminals and shopping malls, said Superintendent Noel Polines, BCPO spokesperson.
Police assistance desks will be set up in identified areas with two personnel each.
Other policemen will be assigned in beach resorts and hotels.
There will also be increased police visibility in major thoroughfares, said Polines.
More policemen will be deployed within the week.
In visibility patrol operations, force multipliers in the barangays will also assist the police.
For its part, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) announced initiatives to ensure safe travel of people. Its personnel will inspect bus terminals to ensure the roadworthiness of buses.
LTFRB will also make sure that transport terminals are well-maintained for the comfort of passengers. They should have free WiFi hotspots, public address systems, clean toilets, benches for commuters, visible signages and ramps/walkways for persons with disabilities, among others.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will also mobilize its Motorist Assistance Teams during the Lenten celebration.
The District Engineering Offices will reactivate the “Lakbay-Alalay” program that will be implemented from April 10 to 17.
DPWH’s uniformed motorist assistance teams will provide personal and prompt assistance on normal and emergency situations in strategic locations along major thoroughfares on a round-the-clock shift.
The road assistance will be implemented in coordination with the Land Transportation Office, Philippine National Police, Local Government Units and other government agencies for any help that may be required. (PNA/PN)
