ILOILO City – No major crimes happened during the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day in Western Visayas, the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) director said.
The deployment of 5,138 police officers to every cemetery and areas of convergence discouraged criminals, said Chief Superintendent Jose Gentiles.
“The PRO-6 sustained its law enforcement and public safety operations,” he said in a phone interview. “We are hoping this would continue.”
He also acknowledged the help of other law enforcers, barangay officials and the 4,612 force multipliers.
The PRO-6 established 780 police assistance hubs as the locals head to cemeteries to visit their dearly departed.
But officers also conducted several operations from Nov. 1 up to morning of Nov. 2 that led to the arrest of six drug personalities, a person in possession of an unlicensed gun and five with standing warrants of arrest.
Gentiles said the police remain on full alert and officers were still detailed at terminals, ports and other crowded areas.
No gambling. No drugs. No liquor. No deadly weapons. No loud music. These were all prohibited in cemeteries, according to Gentiles.
He deployed “95 percent” of PRO-6’s police force in the field on Nov. 1 and 2. No policemen were allowed to take a leave of absence./PN
