MALAY, Aklan – The Sangguniang Bayan (SB) has yet to endorse the proposed development of Cagban jetty port in the world-renowned Boracay Island.

Councilor Floribar Bautista said the Mabuhay Maritime Express Transport, Inc. (MMETI) must first secure the SB endorsement before it enters into an agreement with the provincial government of Aklan.

Dapat kumuha sila ng endorsement sa Sangguniang Bayan to put up facilities in Malay, Aklan,” Bautista added.

On Sept. 17, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) granted Gov. Florencio Miraflores’ request to sign the lease and development agreement between the provincial government and the MMETI for the Cagban port development project, showed in Committee Report No. 2018-160.

The MMETI has proposed the project to the provincial government as a 25-year public-private partnership.

The company wants to develop the upper deck of the Cagban terminal station and build port facilities in vacant spaces.

The SP has conducted public hearings and consultations for MMETI’s proposal.

The MMETI is also constructing a jetty port in Barangay Pook in Aklan’s capital town Kalibo.

The Pook port, when finished, will accommodate travellers from the Kalibo International Airport. Vessels docked there will ferry the travellers to the Cagban jetty port and vice versa.

Bautista said the MMETI officials will be invited to the SB’s regular session to discuss the development plans in Cagban port.

May moratorium tayo sa construction sa isla. Kailangang malaman din natin ang plano ng MMETI,” he added. (With Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
