BACOLOD City – Not all affected families, whose houses will be demolished soon due to a development project in Bacolod City’s Barangay 12, will be provided financial assistance.

This comes after the city government learned that some informal settler families (ISFs) had already received financial assistance when their houses, which once stood in the same village, were demolished by the previous administration.

Legal Officer Romeo Carlos Ting Jr. revealed this, adding that they had also been given a relocation site but kept coming back.

Dapat waay na sila financial assistance kay sang una nahatagan na sila, kada amo na karon balik naman na sila kay gaan naman sila liwat, gane maanad na sila,” Ting said.

Based on the initial evaluation conducted by the Bacolod Housing Authority (BHA), 35 ISFs of the said barangay are qualified for relocation from the previous record of more than 50 affected families.

But, as of Friday, Feb. 16, Ting noted that the BHA will be conducting another round of evaluation and assessment.

The city’s legal officer stressed that they have yet to release the amount of financial assistance to be provided since it will depend on how much funding was allocated divided by the final number of qualified ISFs.

The ISFs will be relocated to Barangay Granada, adjacent to the existing relocation site in Barangay Vista Alegre.

Ting added that the demolition work will likely start in March./PN
