BACOLOD City – Candidates for the May 12 midterm elections in Negros Occidental participated in the peace covenant signing initiated by the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) yesterday, February 13.

The signing held at the NOCPPO headquarters was led by provincial police director Colonel Rainerio de Chavez. Also present were Provincial Elections Supervisor Atty. Ian Lee Ananoria and other representatives from the Commission on Elections (Comelec)-Negros Occidental.

Reelectionist Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson, however, was not in attendance.

De Chavez, in his message, highlighted the importance of peace and integrity in the election process.

“This covenant serves as a pledge to foster an environment where every individual’s right to vote is respected, ensuring a safe and orderly election this 2025. It symbolizes collaboration among all stakeholders, signifying our united stand against electoral violence and misconduct. By signing today, we acknowledge that every candidate and supporter plays an important role in promoting a safe atmosphere where ideas flourish, and respect reigns,” he added.

He further assured that in light of the hardships, particularly concerning the impending Mt. Kanlaon eruption, they will stand firm to their duty.

“We pledge to provide security, ensuring that despite the challenges, the electoral process also remains our top priority,” he said. “Candidates and supporters, let this be a clarion call for integrity and respect. Run your campaigns with honesty, engage in healthy discourse, and prioritize the well-being of our community.”

The NOCPPO chief also called on the Comelec to kindly ensure that the electoral regulations are upheld and that every voice is heard, adding that, “Your commitment to the transparency and fairness of the election process is essential in building trust within our community.”

“As we move forward, let us be inspired by the power of collaboration. Together, we can create an electoral environment that embodies peace and order. Through unity, mutual respect, and shared responsibility, we can turn our vision of a safe and peaceful election into a reality.” De Chavez said. “Let us commit in ensuring that every citizen’s voice is heard, securing the future of our communities.”/PN
