BACOLOD City – The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) approved the request of organizers and the Bacolod City Police Office to implement a mobile phone signal shutdown during the highlights of the MassKara Festival on Oct. 23.
Atty. Pinky Mirano-Ocampo, festival director, said they President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and the First Family are expected to grace the MassKara street and arena dance competition and the Electric MassKara events.
“The signal shutdown is a normal practice when a President is visiting,” Mirano-Ocampo pointed out.
The signal shutdown will only be in areas where the President and his family will go “for security reasons.”
Gun ban
Meanwhile, Police Colonel Thomas Martir, officer-in-charge of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), said they are still waiting for the approval of Camp Crame on their request to enforce a gun ban during the three-week MassKara Festival.
Exempted are the shootfest activities as part of the festivities./PN
