NUJP-Bacolod ‘appalled’ by Marcos videos at UNO-R

BACOLOD City – The local chapter of the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) was “appalled” after a series of videos showing two sides of the Marcos era was released.

The video series was from the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos (UNO-R). It was composed of 15 videos showing the “positive side” of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr.’s administration and another 15, its “negative side.”

NUJP-Bacolod chairwoman Marchel Espina said UNO-R has “ample material about that dark chapter in our history.”

“Far from educating, this disgraceful exercise is more likely to sow confusion and disinformation,” she lamented.

Espina enumerated the bleak events in Negros Occidental during the Marcos regime – the Escalante Massacre, Langoni Nine Massacre, persecution of the Negros Nine, Rape of the Sugar Industry, the story of Joel Abong, and Batang Negros.

“UNO-R should immediately rectify this,” she stressed./PN
