Numancia drug suspect cries foul over arrest

KALIBO, Aklan – A man caught in a buy-bust operation in Numancia, Aklan denied he is selling illegal drugs.

The 37-year-old Michael Briones of Barangay Laguinbanua West, Numancia was caught on Wednesday afternoon.

He allegedly sold two sachets of shabu to an undercover police officer for P10,000.

Antidrug personnel of the Numancia municipal police station and the Aklan Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit staged the sting operation.

Pauwi ako galing sa sabungan. Kukunin ko sana ang motorsiklo, biglang dinumog ako ng mga pulis. Inaresto ako habang may bitbit akong manok . Wala naman akong kasalanan,” Briones said.

Briones is the kristo for cockfights in Barangay Laguinbanua East.

Hindi ko sa bulsa galing ang shabu. Marami ang nakakita kay sir. Sa pulis ang sachets, hindi sa akin,” added Briones. “Sinusumpa ko ang illegal drugs dahil sa maliliit pa ang mga anak ko at buntis ang aking asawa.”

A disposable lighter, a mobile phone and cash were confiscated from Briones when frisked.

The suspect had been arrested over drugs before.

He was caught in a drug buy-bust operation three years ago. He was released from jail on Oct. 5, 2018.

Briones will face charges for violation of Section 5  of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002./PN
