Old grudge leads to fatal hacking

BACOLOD City – Old grudge was the motive in a fatal hacking incident in Sitio Yamingon, Barangay Minapasok, Calatrava, Negros Occidental, according to the police.

The 52-year-old resident Pablito Malupay sustained hack wounds on the head and right arm.

He was rushed to the Alfredo E. Marañon Sr. Memorial District Hospital in Sagay City, Negros Occidental where the attending physician pronounced him “dead on arrival.”

The suspect was Malupay’s kumpare Lito Heronda, 52, also a resident of Barangay Minapasok, police said.

Heronda was allegedly drunk when he waylaid and hacked Malupay – who was on his way to fetch his daughter Gemma – using a bladed weapon around 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Barangay kagawad Geson Balansag managed to arrest Heronda and confiscate the bladed weapon.

Balansag then turned over Heronda to the municipal police.

Investigators said Malupay and Heronda had an altercation last week which led to a fistfight.

Heronda was detained at the Calatrava municipal police station lockup facility./PN
