‘One time, big time’ op nets 44 ‘illegal gamblers’

GUIMARAS – Guimaras Police Provincial Office’s (GPPO) major simultaneous operations against illegal gambling here led to the arrest of 44 people on Tuesday night, Sept. 6.

Here is the breakdown of arrested persons per municipality: Jordan – 23, Sibunag – eight, San Lorenzo – six, Buenavista – four, and Nueva Valencia – three.

According to the GPPO, a total of P6,259 in cash and gambling paraphernalia such as playing cards, tables, bet money, and manila paper were also confiscated.

The suspects are facing charges for violating Presidential Decree 1602 that outlaws illegal gambling.

Police Colonel Richard Baluis, acting provincial director of GPPO, acknowledged all stakeholders and the general public for their support in the successful police operation.

“That said accomplishment of this command is in relation to the nationwide campaign against illegal gambling under the leadership of PNP chief Police General Rodolfo S. Azurin, Jr. The active support of stakeholders and general public has contributed greatly to the achievement and success of police operation,” he said./PN
