BACOLOD City – Only two persons here applied for local absentee voting (LAV), according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
The three-day LAV started yesterday across the country.
Comelec declined to identify the two LAV voters here.
The LAV voting center here is at the Comelec office at the BAYS Center on San Juan Street, said City Acting Comelec officer Revo Sorbito.
LAV voters will be voting for national positions only, one each for president and vice president, 12 senator and one for party-list group.
LAV adopts the manual system of elections where the voting, counting and canvassing are done manually.
In the whole Western Visayas there are around 4,000 LAV voters – mostly government personnel who, due to their work on Election Day (May 9) won’t be able to vote on that day. They include personnel of the Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines and Comelec.
Meanwhile, around 2,000 registered voters here were delisted by the Comelec. They were either dead already or committed double registration.
Comelec records showed (before delisting) the city with 327,403 registered voters./PN
