ILOILO City – Of the nearly 5,000 job vacancies offered at the job fair of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 6, only 25 were filled on the spot (HOTS).
The job fair was held at Robinsons Place Iloilo yesterday as part of the 121st Labor Day celebration with the theme “Pabahay, Bilihing Abot-Presyo, Benepisyo ng Matatag na Trabaho Para sa Manggagawang Pilipino.”
A total of 995 applicants registered online through https://bit.ly/2023LaborDay, DOLE-6 data showed. There were walk-in applicants as well.
There were 122 “near hires”, at which point the applicants only needed to do the final interview and submit the requirements.
DOLE-6 director, Atty. Sixto T. Rodriguez Jr., advised the 122 to immediately process the requirements.
There were 4,641 job openings for field collection officers, collection specialists, warehouse managers, sales consultants, heavy equipment mechanics, food handlers, accounting clerks, company nurses, recruitment specialists, delivery drivers, checkers, sales specialists, human resources assistants, marketing supervisors, accounting analysts, and creative design specialists, among others.
The job fair was participated by 72 local companies.
Jobseekers also flocked to the help desks of partnered government agencies such as the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, Professional Regulation Commission, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, Public Employment Service Office, Occupational Safety and Health Center and Employees’ Compensation Commission of the DOLE, Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board, Philippine Health Insurance Corp., and Social Security System.
The Philippine Army also accepted applications and distributed dental kits; the National Bureau of Investigation issued clearances; and Pag-IBIG gave out loyalty cards.
This year’s celebration also featured the Kadiwa ng Pangulo Para sa Manggagawa, highlighting the agricultural and fishery products of DOLE, Department of Agriculture, and DTI-assisted cooperatives, and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
“Our celebration today is not about what the government can do for us; it is also about what we can do to help our fellow workers, especially those who are most vulnerable. That is why we welcome the Kadiwa ng Pangulo Program to support our farmers, our MSMEs, and our other sectors who face the greatest challenge,” said Rodriguez during the job fair’s opening program.
After the program, P69.1 million in livelihood and employment assistance was released to beneficiaries across the region.
* Aklan Field Office – P1 million for 67 beneficiaries of the KABUHAYAN project
* Antique Field Office – P6.5 million for 988 beneficiaries of the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) Pay-out, Government Internship Program Stipend Pay-out, and Special Program for Employment of Students Stipend payout.
* Capiz Field Office – P4.1 million for 402 beneficiaries of the KABUHAYAN, TUPAD pay-out, and SPES stipend payout.
* Guimaras Field Office – P2.6 million for 418 beneficiaries for the KABUHAYAN Project and TUPAD payout
* Iloilo Field Office – P20.5 million for 3,314 beneficiaries of the KABUHAYAN Project and TUPAD payout
* Negros Occidental Field Office – P34.4 million for 6,591 beneficiaries of the KABUHAYAN Project, TUPAD payout, and TUPAD checks for ACPs.
