Oton clips Dumangas, nets inter-town caging

OTON captured the Inter-Municipality Men’s Basketball Tournament Season 2 crown after beating Dumangas 84-75 in Game 2 of the best-of-three finals in Pavia, Iloilo.

Tournament MVP Jovi Faeldan led the way with 16 points while Alvin Benecio and Aming Doliguez had 15 points each for Oton, which also won Game 1 of the series last week.

Oton opened finals Game 2 on Saturday with a 13-2 lead on three 3-point conversions from Faeldan. Dumangas answered with a 17-6 scoring run to knot the count before Oton retook a 22-19 edge on a buzzer-beater by playing coach Albert Nabo.

Oton turned to Doliguez in the second frame as he scored 7 straight points to stretch the advantage to 13 but Dumangas countered with another rally to come to within 35-42 at the half.

Dumangas continued its run in the third and was able to take the lead 47-44 before widening it 54-49. Oton retaliated with three unanswered baskets capped by an Epoy Bellones for a 64-59 lead.

Both teams were into tight game in the fourth with Oton clinging to a 4-point edge. Dumangas trimmed the deficit to 2 but was unable to force a deadlock before Oton sealed the win on shots by Benecio and Doliguez.

Oton took home a cash prize of P100,000 aside from trophy and medals while Dumangas settled for P50,000, trophy and individual medals./PN
