ILOILO City – More than 10 police personnel are under investigation for alleged involvement in illegal drugs, according to Police Brigadier General Leo Francisco, director of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6).
These include police non-commissioned officers and police commissioned officers assigned in different police units across Western Visayas.
Francisco said they received information through their hotline numbers about these police officers who have relatives and friends involved in illegal drugs, but refused to divulge their identities.
“Usually natanggap natin na information ay may kaibigan at kamag-anak na involved sa drugs at nag-protect ng durogista. Pero we are conducting a thorough investigation kasi baka may nanira lang,” Francisco told Panay News.
He said those proven guilty will be slapped with criminal and administrative charges.
“Once a police officer is found guilty, he will be dismissed from the service. We are sure that our investigation is fair and we don’t want to punish our men na walang sala,” Francisco assured.
The investigation is part of the ongoing internal cleansing of the Philippine National Police.
The region’s top cop said a surprise drug test will also be conducted anytime.
“This is a warning to our men. Stay away from drugs at ibang illegal na gawain kasi malaki na ang sahod natin, huwag natin sayangin,” Francisco added./PN
