CAPIZ — In a decisive and proactive measure to mitigate the impacts of Typhoon “Tino”, the provincial government here launched an extensive relief initiative aimed at safeguarding its communities.
On Monday, November 3, food packs were distributed to a total of 4,176 families in Roxas City and other areas in the province, underscoring the government’s unwavering commitment to disaster preparedness and community welfare.
The operation focused on seven specific city barangays — 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and Tanque — where a total of 1,839 families received food packs.
Additionally, families in neighboring areas facing similar threats from the typhoon were included in this vital relief effort.
Barangay Baybay received the most number of food packs at over 2,034, ensuring that the most vulnerable populations are adequately prepared with essential supplies before the storm hits.
The initiative, spearheaded by the “Task Force Pagdumdum,” aimed at delivering swift and effective support to families in urgent need during emergencies, showcased the timely response of local authorities.
The success of these endeavors is largely attributed to the strong collaboration among various sectors within the provincial government. Key figures played pivotal roles in the coordination and execution of the distribution, including Joerine Tan, head of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, who coordinated logistics and resource allocation; Allan Cullo, head of the Capiz Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office, who assessed environmental risks and assisted in ensuring safety protocols during distribution; and Atty. Luvim Amores, the program’s chairman, who oversaw the overall operation, ensuring that all actions aligned with the provincial disaster response plan.
Gov. Fredenil Castro, for his part, emphasized the importance of community resilience in the face of natural disasters, stating his commitment to keeping Capisnons safe and well-prepared.
He expressed gratitude for the collaborative efforts between local and national agencies and reiterated the province’s dedication to providing continuous support despite the challenges posed by “Tino.”
