GUIMARAS – Security measures are in place for this year’s edition of the Manggahan Festival 2024 from May 3 to May 22.
Gov. JC Rahman A. Nava, Vice Gov. John Edward G. Gando and Guimaras Police Provincial Office (GPPO) director Colonel Rhea E. Santos led the send-off ceremony for security forces at the front of the new provincial capitol building in Jordan town yesterday.
A total of 420 Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel, force multipliers, and other government forces were deployed beginning yesterday to ensure the safety of the public during the 20-day celebration.
Of the number, 241 are police personnel, 40 emergency responders, and 36 from the Philippine Coast Guard and Bureau of Fire Protection.
They will be augmented by around 103 force multipliers from the PNP Highway Patrol Group, Armed Forces of the Philippines reservists, and other groups.
Gov. Nava said he is looking forward to a happy and safe Manggahan Festival this year.
He added that the festival is getting bigger every year, but with the help of law enforcement agencies and force multipliers, challenges will be dealt with accordingly.
“Mango Eat-All-You-Can” – one of the sought-after activities of the annual festival – is set on May 3 to 5, May 10 to 12, and May 17 to 22 at the provincial capitol grounds.
For just P100 registration fee, one can consume an unlimited number of mangoes for 30 minutes.
Other highlights of the festival are the Miss Guimaras Coronation Night on May 17 and street dance competition on May 22./PN
