BACOLOD City – Over 4,000 hog raisers in Negros Occidental affected by the recent hog mortalities will receive financial aid from the provincial government.
Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) is finalizing the list of affected hog raisers who will receive assistance.
The province has allocated P10 million to provide each affected family with P2,000. It will be released sometime around the first or second week of July.
Diaz emphasized that the assistance will be given to hog raisers who have been adhering to the province’s biosafety protocols.
“If you just threw away your dead hog and did not bury it, we do not encourage that. You will not be given assistance,” he said.
As of Wednesday afternoon, June 28, losses due to swine deaths in Negros Occidental reached around P168 million, data from the Provincial Animal Biosecurity Incident Management Team showed.
Mortalities included almost 15,000 hog heads reported in 144 barangays across 18 out of 31 local government units in the province. (With a report from PNA)/PN
