ILOILO City – Approximately P1.156 million worth of suspected shabu was seized from a high-value suspect during a buy-bust operation yesterday morning in Zone 4, Barangay Lanit, Jaro district.
The Iloilo City Police Office’s (ICPO) Drug Enforcement Unit led by officer-in-charge Captain Ryan Christ C. Inot arrested the suspect identified as alias “Winzon” around 8:15 a.m. and confiscated around 170 grams of illegal substance and P7,000 in buy-bust money.
Police said the 46-year-old suspect is a resident of Barangay Baldoza, La Paz district but temporarily staying in Barangay Lanit.
He is now in police custody and will face charges for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Following the successful operation, the ICPO reaffirmed its commitment to the government’s anti-drug campaign, showing relentless effort in combating illegal drugs in the city amid election season.
Meanwhile, the city government, through Mayor Jerry Treñas’ spokesperson Joy F. Fantilaga, expressed strong support and appreciation for the ICPO’s unwavering dedication.
“On behalf of Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, I proudly commend the dedication of the Iloilo City Police Office in its intensified campaign against illegal drugs, a commitment that remains resolute even as the election season approaches,” Fantilaga said in a statement.
The city, she said, will never allow the resurgence of illegal drugs that threaten the lives of residents, especially the youth.
“Never again will we allow drugs to poison the lives of our youth or disrupt the peace of our barangays. This is not just law enforcement, it is a fight for our future — the future of every Ilonggo family,” she added./PN
