KALIBO, Aklan – The national government has earmarked P195.5 million for the upgrading and rehabilitation of facilities at Kalibo International Airport under the proposed 2026 National Budget.

House Minority Leader Marcelino Libanan said Kalibo International Airport is among more than 21 airports nationwide set to receive funding aimed at improving aviation infrastructure across the country.

Libanan noted that the allocation is expected to strengthen inter-island connectivity, boost tourism, support small businesses, and generate additional employment opportunities in various regions.

Based on the 2026 General Appropriations Act, a total of P7.8 billion has been allocated for the development and improvement of more than 21 airports nationwide.

Meanwhile, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said the funds will be used for the construction and rehabilitation of key airport facilities, including runways, taxiways, ramps, control towers, and passenger terminals. The budget will also cover the procurement of modern navigational equipment to enhance flight safety and operational efficiency.

The planned upgrades are expected to further improve airport services and accommodate increasing passenger traffic, reinforcing Kalibo International Airport’s role as a vital gateway to Aklan and nearby tourist destinations./PN
