KALIBO, Aklan – To provide potable water in the barangays, P26 million worth of water projects will be implemented in Libacao town this year.
Janlud, Guadalupe and Julita were the identified village beneficiaries, according to Mayor Charito Navarosa.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is pouring P25,620,373.60 into the projects.
It has issued a Notice to Proceed to M.G. Salazar Construction Corp. for the laying out of pipelines, water source development and service connections.
The water projects are intended for poor and waterless Libacaonons, said Navarosa.
“[They] involve tapping water sources in the barangays,” she said.
Moreover Libacao is negotiating with the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) to complete water supply projects in upland barangays.
Once finished, the projects are expected to meet the drinking water requirements of Sibalew, Calamcam and Ortega villages.
The LWUA is under the Public Works department. It was transferred from the Department of Health by virtue of Executive Order No. 62 signed by then president Benigno Aquino III on Oct. 26, 2011.
The DPWH is mandated to ensure that the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of infrastructure facilities, such as national highways and flood control and water development systems are in accordance with the highest level of safety and efficiency.
Several public schools are also recipients of the P3.2-million rainwater collection system infrastructure program of the DPWH.
They are from Libacao, Banga, Malinao, Tangalan, Batan, Makato, Ibajay, Lezo, Nabas, New Washington, Madalag, and Altavas. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
