BORACAY – The road widening project in this island resort will receive P490 million from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
Aklan District Engineer Noel Fuentebella said the rehabilitation of the Boracay main road, which will measure 12 meters in width, is under a Malay municipal ordinance that aims to ease traffic in the island.
Fuentebella said the Boracay main road project includes the construction of a bike lane and a walkway and the installation of streetlights and drainage systems.
DPWH secretary Mark Villar requested the Department of Budget and Management to immediately release the P490-million augmentation fund, just in time for the six-month rehabilitation in Boracay, according to Fuentebella.
The DPWH also coordinated with Boracay Island Water Company (BIWC) and Boracay Tubi Systems, Inc. prior to the road rehabilitation.
The agency also deployed 150 workers for the clearing operations of more than 1,000 houses, stores and establishments along the roads in barangays Yapak, Manoc-Manoc and Balabag.
He added that the Department of Environment and Natural Resources will also remove trees obstructing the road widening project. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
