ILOILO City – The Philippine Fisheries Development Authority – Iloilo Fish Port Complex (PFDA-IFPC) continues to improve its facilities to accommodate more fish processors.
Port Manager Elmer Figuracion said that this year, using their corporate funds, they have identified 11 projects worth P5.2 million to include the repair and rehabilitation of post-harvest facilities such as refrigeration and cold storage.
These facilities are being leased with an occupancy rate of 90 to 95 percent for frozen and processed products intended for local consumption.
Figuracion likewise revealed that they already have an existing processing plant that is waiting for takers.
Bids for the lease of the facility are now being evaluated by the PFDA Board of Directors. The plant could accommodate a maximum of five tons a day.
Figuracion added that with their improved facilities, they looked forward to be able to attract processors whose products are intended for the export market.
IFPC sits on a 21-hectare reclaimed area in Barangay Tanza.
Following the move of the city government to clean the Iloilo River, the utilization rate of the IFPC landing quay and breakwater had been maximized as fishing vessels were no longer allowed to berth at the Muelle Loney area.
Aside from its landing quay and breakwater, the complex also makes available to their clients processing, refrigeration and other post-harvest services. (PNA)
