BACOLOD City – The city government here has officially launched the operation of a P6.4-million refrigerated van, following a blessing ceremony held on June 24 at the Bacolod City Government Center grounds.
The van, a complete-package refrigerated unit, was funded by the City Department of Agriculture (CDA) under the Agri-Fisheries Digital Platform Program, an initiative aimed at promoting locally grown produce and ensuring affordable, fresh food options for consumers.
The program was initially launched on March 13 through the City Agriculture Office (CAO) at the Gaisano Grand City Central Mall Supermarket. Its goals include enhancing market access for local farmers, maintaining a steady supply of agricultural commodities, and supporting food security in the locality.
CDA head Maricar Quiro said the refrigerated van will be used to transport agricultural products from Barangay Alangilan to the designated supermarket. It will serve as a mobile facility for collecting, storing, and sorting fresh produce sourced directly from Bacolod’s local farmers.
The van is expected to improve the efficiency of deliveries to Gaisano Grand Supermarket, ensuring that consumers receive high-quality and fresh agricultural goods.
With the strong support of Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez and Agro-Digital PH, the Agri-Fisheries Digital Platform Program demonstrates the city’s commitment to uplifting the agricultural sector.
The program also integrates an online digital system that links local farmers with Agro-Digital PH, allowing for real-time updates on production, pricing, and logistics.
“In this modern age, we can see that big malls are already in the digital space—like e-pay, Lazada, and others. This is the trend. So, in the same manner, we will also place our local producers, such as those selling fruits and vegetables, on a digital platform to make it easier for buyers to find them,” Mayor Benitez said.
He added that the city government will continue to assist producers in managing their supply and logistics chains to prevent unnecessary increases in food prices.
Through this program, Bacolod City reaffirms its commitment to improving farmers’ livelihoods, enhancing food security, and providing the public with accessible, healthy, and affordable food options.
