
ILOILO – To help boost sports in Janiuay town, an 80-million sports complex will be built at the Janiuay Comprehensive High School.
This first-ever sports complex in the province will feature a 400-meter track and field oval, football field and grandstand, among others, that offer multifaceted benefits that extend beyond physical health to include social cohesion, educational enhancement, and physical well-being of project beneficiaries.
Yesterday, Uswag Ilonggo Party-list’s Rep. James “Jojo” Ang, Iloilo 3rd District’s Cong. Lorenz Defensor and Janiuay’s Mayor Paulino Parian led the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the sports facility – a joint project of Ang, Cong. Defensor and Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr.
Also present during the groundbreaking were Engr. Allan Rey Pajinma of the Iloilo 2nd District Engineering Office of Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 6 and Janiuay Sangguniang Bayan (SB) members.
Cong. Defensor said the abovementioned sports complex is only the beginning; more projects of its kind will follow. He said they are also planning to construct an indoor Olympic-size swimming pool at the Janiuay Comprehensive High School.
“I want to see Janiuay as the sports capital of the 3rd District and Central Iloilo. Dya nga pasilidad, our Olympic-size track oval, stadium, Olympic-size swimming pool, dormitories, and training centers will improve the quality of our sports facilities that will also elevate the skills of our athletes para mangin madinalag-on kita sa provincial, regional and national meets,” the congressman said.
Ang, meanwhile, was elated that finally Janiuaynons’ dream of having a sports complex turned into reality.
“Ang madugay na nga ginadamo sang mga taga-Janiuay natuman na. Nalipay ako nga kami ni Cong. Nonoy kag Gov. Toto nangin kabahin kami sa pag-realize sang inyo damgo,” Ang said.
He added that not only the town of Janiuay will benefit from the sports complex but also the entire 3rd District, particularly the neighboring towns of Mina, Lambunao, Cabatuan, and Badiangan, among others.
The Uswag Ilonggo party-list representative further said that athletes from the 3rd District need not go to Iloilo City anymore to undergo training for various sports events.
For their parts, Mayor Parian and Janiuay schools district supervisor Dr. Lucia P. Lamanero expressed their gratitude and appreciation to the governor and congressmen for the project./PN
